The Year in Review

There have been many changes in our branch over the last twelve months. We wanted to let you know what your union has been doing for you, our members.

We have represented more than 70 members in investigations, disciplinaries, grievances and other issues. We have supported members and helped them access support from mental health services.

We promoted Unite’s ‘Period Dignity’ campaign within the company which resulted in the provision of free sanitary products for women in all areas of work.

After feedback from you we discussed sickness policy with the company and assisted in amending sickness procedures.

Your safety at work continues to be an important issue for Unite. The last few months have been a very challenging time for all of us. During the Covid-19 we continually raised your issues with management. We created the Unite Health and Safety Card detailing the legislation in place to protect you (Please see one of your Reps for a card). We assisted in the creation of the Covid-19 SOP’s and Risk Assessments.

We raised health and safety issues with directors, particularly regarding asbestos and asbestos checks. This led to the creation of ‘Culture Change’ at Thirteen which our Health and Safety Representatives regularly attend to ensure safe systems of work for members.

Shop Stewards Sharon Bailey and Sarah Johnstone are part of the LGBT plus group at Thirteen which aims to raise awareness of LGBT issues and rights. Sarah Johnstone also established the Thirteen Bootcamp as part of the Mental Health Advocate initiative.

As a branch we have donated to many charitable causes over the last twelve months

Are there any issues you would like to discuss with your union? Why not join us for our next branch meeting and have your say. Contact your Unite representatives for more information.
